Welfare Transition

The Economic Self Sufficiency program helps individuals receiving public assistance create a plan to gain the skills and work experience they need to get a job and move up the career ladder.

Welfare Transition (WT) Program

The Florida’s Welfare Transition (WT) program is designed to provide Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) recipients with training, education, support services, and skills needed to gain unsubsidized employment. Work eligible TCA recipients are referred to the WT program and are provided an assessment of their skills, work history, and employability.

Participants are engaged in work activities that will enhance their work skills via job training and work sites or additional education. These activities are designed to help program participants gain skills and obtain employment needed to increase the likelihood of self-sufficiency. Work eligible participants are required to participate in a certain number of work activity hours per week to continue to receive TCA.

Who is Eligible?

In Florida, eligibility for Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) is determined by the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The DCF determines TCA eligibility based on income, assets, and other factors; there must be a minor residing at the home. Families interested in applying for TCA should do so by visiting www.dcf.state.fl.us/programs/access/. Work eligible TCA recipients are referred to the WT program and are required to participate in the program in order to remain eligible for TCA and WT program services.

Available Services:

Participants may receive supportive services to assist in overcoming barriers to employment such as:

  • Childcare
  • Transportation
  • Work Experience Placement
  • Referrals for Local Organizations

Transitional Services are available for families who have obtained employment and are no longer receiving TCA. Transitional Services may include assistance with childcare, transportation, and other services depending upon funding availability.
