Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) Scholarships

This program is designed to provide education and training opportunities in high demand occupations in order to increase employment, earnings and job retention for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program participants. Available services are based on a determination of needs and include tuition and book assistance (up to $6,000), uniforms, supplies, and vocational guidance. The Goal of Florida’s WIOA is to build a skilled workforce.

Who Can Apply for WIOA Scholarship?

Individuals who are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • U.S. citizens and/or authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service
  • Okaloosa or Walton County residents
  • Earning less than the CSOW area rate of self-sufficiency for family size

Individuals must also fall into one of the following categories:

Dislocated Worker:

Individuals who have been recently laid off or received notification of upcoming termination/layoff and eligible for or exhausted unemployment compensation.

     Categories:

  • Recipients of Reemployment Assistance
  • Individuals who exhausted their Reemployment Assistance and have not worked since
  • Transitioning Service Members
  • Applicable Military Spouses
  • Displaced Homemakers

Adult:

Individuals who are unemployed and do not meet the Dislocated Worker category; or individuals who are employed and earning less than the CSOW area rate of self-sufficiency for family size.

How do I apply for assistance through WIOA?

Step 1: Register in Employ Florida

Step 2: Complete and submit our Pre-Screening Form

Step 3: Attend the WIOA Orientation

Step 4: Submit completed WIOA Application packet and required documentation to the WIOA Career Advisor for review and approval.

  • Receive training and employment in a high demand occupation

  • “Earn while you learn” approach to training
  • Access to additional WIOA Services such as: Support Services, Follow-Up Services, and Career Planning

“Earn while you learn” education and training program for qualified new and existing employees.

On the Job Training bridges the skills gap through onsite employer provided training. Wage reimbursements are paid directly to the employer

Technical instruction may occur at the place of employment, at a local technical college, or through an online program. The cost of instruction may be covered by CareerSource Okaloosa Walton or the employer, but cannot be paid by the employee

Apprentices  receive structured wage increases with demonstrated technical skills upgrades and enhanced knowledge

Apprenticeships must result in a nationally recognized industry credential or certificate.
